Operations Engineering Manager (234831) BSME / Machining, Assembly, Heat Treat, Metal Finishing, Painting Operations / Akron OH area
Akron OH area Engineering and Operations Leader with 15 years of manufacturing experience. He is a BSME and is currently a Flight Commander in the USAF Reserve. He started his career as a Machinist while going to school to get his degree in Mechanical Engineering. His track record demonstrates that he is a problem solver and process improver! He has led teams of 15 direct and 165 indirect.
He recently developed and completed a manufacturing expansion facility where he oversaw construction, manufacturing & operations processes, equipment procurement, layout, staffing, and engineering. This Game Changer brings a track record of success in CAPEX projects, Engineering Management, Operations Leadership, highly developed machining skills and Product Development to the table! He is interested in confidentially exploring new leadership opportunities in the Akron area. His notable experience includes:
• Leading the startup of a $15M Manufacturing Facility with an Automation / Industry 4.0 focus. Production starting February 2024!
• Drive continuous improvement for 300+ machines and all assembly areas in 500k ft2 facility
• Drove increase in machine utilization
• Utilized existing ERP data to bring focus to machine capacity, and load level, and increase throughput
• When I took over Manufacturing Engineering for the plant, engineers with degrees with being utilized as glorified machinists with 80% of their workload being troubleshooting day-to-day issues in production. Furthermore, they were programming CNCs using straight-line G-Code.
o I worked with Plant Manager, Business Unit Managers, and HR to lead the development of a tiered CNC Operator Level system that provided training and career path opportunities for operators.
o High-level operators began to lighten the load of engineers with equal results and far less pay.
o I got an appropriation request approved for a $100k MasterCAM system and had engineers trained within my first 9 months in the position.
o Day-to-day troubleshooting became 20% of their time, and continuous improvement, automation, and capital investments became the majority of their workload.
